Full Form of AIBE

1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background

The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a mandatory post-enrollment statutory examination administered by the Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act 1961. Law graduates provisionally enrolled with any State Bar Council must clear the examination within two years to obtain the permanent Certificate of Practice (CoP) allowing legal advocacy in Indian courts.

2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits

Candidates must hold a recognized 3-year LL.B or 5-year integrated law degree from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India, and hold a valid provisional advocate enrollment number with any State Bar Council. There is no upper age limit.

3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure

Offline pen-and-paper OMR examination comprising 100 objective multiple-choice questions. Minimum qualifying mark is 45% for General and OBC candidates, and 40% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. No negative marking.

Constitutional Law (10 Qs), Code of Civil Procedure (10 Qs), Criminal Procedure Code (10 Qs), Indian Penal Code (8 Qs), Evidence Act (8 Qs), Family Law (8 Qs), Law of Contract & Specific Relief (8 Qs), Law of Tort & Motor Vehicle Act (5 Qs), Company Law, and Professional Ethics.
