Full Form of GATE

1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a premier national-level examination administered jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board. GATE scores are the primary qualifying benchmark for M.Tech/Ph.D admissions and recruitment into Maharatna/Navratna PSUs.

2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits

Candidates who have successfully completed or are currently in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, or Arts from government recognized institutions. No age limit.

3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure

Computer-Based Test (CBT) lasting 3 hours with 65 questions (Total 100 Marks). Types of questions include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with negative marking, Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).

4. Core Syllabus & Key Subjects

General Aptitude (15 marks), Engineering Mathematics (13 marks), and Core Subject Engineering Curriculum (72 marks) spanning Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, and Chemical branches.
