1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), founded in 1861 by Alexander Cunningham, is an attached office of the Ministry of Culture responsible for archaeological research, conservation, and preservation of over 3,600 monuments of national importance under the AMASR Act 1958.
2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits
Assistant Archaeologist / Technical Assistant: Master's degree in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology or Epigraphy with minimum 55% marks from a recognized university. Age Limit: 18 to 30 years (with age relaxations for reserved categories).
3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure
Staff Selection Commission (SSC Selection Posts) Computer-Based Test or UPSC direct recruitment for Group 'A' Superintending Archaeologist cadres followed by Document Verification.
