1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body constituted under the UGC Act 1956 for the coordination, determination, and maintenance of standards of university education in India. It coordinates the National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for Assistant Professor eligibility and JRF awards.

2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits

Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD). Age Limit: Up to 30 years for Junior Research Fellowship; no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.

3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure

UGC NET computer-based examination comprising Paper 1 (Teaching & Research Aptitude - 50 Qs, 100 Marks) and Paper 2 (Domain Postgraduate Subject - 100 Qs, 200 Marks) conducted in a single 3-hour session with no negative marking.
