1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), founded on 1 July 1916 and headquartered in Kolkata, is the premier national statutory organization for taxonomic and faunal surveys under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It conducts comprehensive surveys of animal biodiversity across all biogeographic zones of India.

2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits

Scientist 'B': Master's Degree in Zoology / Animal Taxonomy / Wildlife Biology from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks and 2-3 years research experience. Zoological Assistant: B.Sc in Zoology with 55% marks. Age Limit: Up to 30-35 years.

3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure

Scientist 'B': Direct recruitment through UPSC / MoEFCC Interview based on academic citations and research publications. Junior cadres: Staff Selection Commission (SSC Selection Posts) Computer-Based Test.

Animal Taxonomy, Phylogenetics, Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation, Wildlife Protection Act 1972, Biological Diversity Act 2002, and Scientific Research Methodology.
