1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) is a gazetted police rank in Indian state police forces. Directly recruited through State Public Service Commission civil service examinations (e.g. UPPSC, BPSC, MPPSC), a DSP serves as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) commanding police circles.
2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits
Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Age Limit: 21 to 28/35 years depending on the state civil services rules. Prescribed physical standards: Height 165-168 cm for males, 152-155 cm for females; chest expansion 84-89 cm.
3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure
State Combined Civil Services Examination: Prelims Screening Test, Mains Written Descriptive Examination, Physical Standard Test (PST), and State Commission Interview.

General Studies (History, Polity, Economy, State Special Knowledge), General Hindi / English, Essay Paper, and Police Administration & Criminal Law fundamentals.
