1. Official Mandate, Scope & Background
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India's premier central constitutional recruiting agency mandated under Articles 315 to 323 of the Constitution. It conducts examinations for appointments to All India Services (IAS, IPS, IFS) and Central Civil and Defence Services (CDS, NDA, CAPF, ESE, CMS).
2. Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications & Age Limits
Civil Services: Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Age Limit: 21 to 32 years for General category (6 attempts), 35 years for OBC (9 attempts), and 37 years for SC/ST (unlimited attempts) as of August 1.
3. Examination Scheme & Selection Procedure
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Paper I General Studies and Paper II CSAT - 400 Marks). Stage 2: Main Examination (9 Subjective Papers - 1750 Marks). Stage 3: Personality Test / Interview (275 Marks). Total score out of 2025 marks determines All India Rank.

Indian Polity & Constitution, Modern Indian History & National Movement, Physical and Human Geography, Macroeconomics & Social Inclusion, Science & Technology, Environmental Ecology, Ethics & Integrity, and optional academic subject.
